The Yancheng Local Culture International Communication Research Center was established on March 10, 2022. It is a professional think tank affiliated with the School of Foreign Languages of Yancheng Institute of Technology. The center has legal person status, and its superior legal person unit is Yancheng Institute of Technology. The center currently has 12 full-time research fellows and 1 part-time research fellow, including 3 with senior professional titles, 6 with associate senior professional titles, and 3 with intermediate professional titles, forming a interdisciplinary and high-level research team. The research focus of the center is on the overseas translation and international communication strategies of Yancheng local culture (such as the New Fourth Army culture, sea salt culture, marine culture, wetland culture, Huaiju opera culture, etc.).
The center has distinct characteristics. Relying on the excellent teaching staff of the school's translation discipline, it serves the strategic needs of the country's external communication. Using multiple languages as tools and through diverse forms such as monographs, translated works, papers, and foreign language short videos, it deeply explores the connotation of Yancheng local culture and is committed to promoting Yancheng local culture to the world. In the past three years, the center has actively carried out work and held many influential academic activities, such as the "Cultural Elegance, Mutual Learning among Civilizations" academic salon, the "Introduction to High-Level Translation Research Achievements in Serving National External Communication" seminar, and the "International Communication and Exchange and Mutual Learning among Chinese and Foreign Civilizations" academic salon. At the same time, the center's members actively participated in the translation and reception of foreign guests in important activities such as the Global Coastal Forum and the Yellow (Bohai) Sea Wetland International Conference, playing an active role in enhancing Yancheng's international influence.
The center has achieved remarkable results in advisory achievements. Many research results have received affirmative instructions from municipal leaders. For example, in December 2022, Zhang Yanyan's "Suggestions on Improving the International Communication Effectiveness of Yancheng around the Construction of Four 'Green Yancheng'" received an affirmative instruction from Xu Ying, the Secretary of the Yancheng Municipal Party Committee; in May 2023, Qian Lulu's "Thoughts and Suggestions on Accelerating the Development and Utilization of Yancheng New Fourth Army Red Cultural Resources" received an affirmative instruction from Sun Daming, the Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Yancheng Municipal People's Congress and was adopted by the New Fourth Army Memorial Hall. In addition, in 2024, the center also achieved a series of important results, such as applying for and obtaining the approval of the school-affiliated scientific research institution "Yancheng International Communication Research Institute", jointly building the "University International Communication Practice Base" with the Publicity Department of the Yancheng Municipal Party Committee, etc., the unit where the center is located was approved as the only master's degree program in translation in Yancheng and 5 people were hired as master's supervisors, and the foreign language short video works directed and filmed by the center won awards in the Ministry of Education competitions.
In the future, the center will continue to focus on the core task of international communication of Yancheng local culture, strengthen the construction of the research team, conduct in-depth research work, actively hold academic activities, and continuously improve the level of advisory services, making greater contributions to promoting Yancheng local culture to the world and enhancing Yancheng's international image.
